AEVA Western Australia Branch

Welcome to the WA Branch home page!

Richard McNeil enters WA from the top end.

Latest WA electric vehicle news:

The WA branch submitted a contribution to the Parliamentary Inquiry into e-rideables. Electric scooters, skateboards, ebikes and motorcycles are hugely popular, but accidents and fatal crashes are on the rise. AEVA argues that rather than banning the devices, better regulation, compliance and licensing is the smart way to go, using the laws already in place. Our submission can be found here.

How many EVs are there in WA? Well now you can visit the WA Department of Transport website and find out! 30,000 as of March 2025, and growing!

Member lurks and perks

Did you know AEVA members can receive discounts and exclusive offers from some of our business members? WA-based Plico Energy are offering AEVA WA members a discount on home energy storage systems.

Recent and upcoming events:

Check out the Events calendar for upcoming EV events in Western Australia.

At our November branch meeting, AEVA WA member and Citizen's Own Renewable Energy Network Australia (CORENA) chief operations officer, Sarah McCabe gave a short presentation on CORENA's recent projects funded under the scheme. CORENA offers interest-free finance to community projects in need of solar energy, batteries, energy efficiency upgrades and electirc vehicle purchases. Projects which meet the non-profit's criteria are paid off via the savings from their reduced energy bills. Anyone interested in the program, or to donate to CORENA should get in touch with Sarah!

AEVA board director for WA, Jo Oddie, gave a presentation at the October branch meeting on efforts to improve the energy resilience of Trentham in rural Victoria (her other home). Trentham, like many parts of Australia, suffers days-long blackouts when severe weather or natural disasters strike the region. While households can do their part to be better prepared for these events, including solar and home storage, EVs with vehicle-to-load/home/grid and backup generators, there is a clear need for community centres and civic hubs to enjoy a resiliant power supply. A copy of her presentation can be found here.

About the WA branch:
